Coaching approach

Nick takes a systemic and holistic approach to coaching which draws on his extensive expertise in delivering Leadership Development, Employee Engagement and Performance Improvement Programmes within large blue chip organisations and SMEs.

Working on a one-to-one basis, the first step is to enable clients to reach their goals by understanding and building on their unique strengths, exploring their underpinning drivers, and targeting awareness and change at the level of underlying habits, patterns and attitudes. The programme continues, by Nick encouraging individuals to take personal control, to create their own plans and direction and align these to their business goals and personal objectives.

Nick has a ‘light touch’, which allows him to challenge, be human and use humour appropriately to ensure sessions are engaging and fun.

PROGRAMME OUTLINE

Nick’s coaching programme is flexible and tailored to the individual’s needs. His programme typically involves between 6 and 12 coaching sessions over a period of months.  Nick believes that coaching works best face-to-face but is always contactable by telephone or e-mail between sessions.

The first session is a chemistry meeting, an opportunity for both parties to get to know each other, to frame the programme to meet the individual’s specific needs and agree how to measure success. The next steps are to provide the opportunity for unconstrained thinking to uncover possibilities, remove barriers and embed new thought processes and behaviours.

Throughout the process there is an emphasis on making continuous progress and assisting the individual in planning the next steps.

KEY PRINCIPLES

There are a number of principles which Nick operates by:

  • A holistic approach – our business and personal lives are not mutually exclusive, issues in one area impact on the other.
  • Complete confidentiality – a totally safe space to explore any issues and alternatives.
  • An equal, trusting partnership – openness and honesty between coach and client is the essential ingredient for success.
  • Horizons – reaching our full potential probably requires a degree of change. A clear path of attainable and motivating changes will lead to the ultimate goal.
  • A listening coach – the role of the coach is to challenge the client to explore new perspectives and to guide them through an assessment of new approaches and options.
  • A willing client – the client needs to really want to accept the challenge.

TAILORED TO YOUR SPECIFIC NEEDS

Every client is unique with their own strengths, beliefs, goals, challenges and methods of working. Nick’s approach to coaching recognises the importance of spending time understanding people in the context of their work environment, job demands and other roles in life. Whatever your situation, coaching provides a rare opportunity in today’s corporate world, time to focus entirely on you, the individual.

There are no ‘off the shelf’ solutions here. Whilst Nick’s work is firmly rooted in recognised coaching practices, his extensive corporate background, coupled with his 14 years’ coaching experience, allows him to get to the issues quickly and tailor his approach to perfectly suit every individual’s needs and their preferred way of working.

THE SCIENCE

Every coaching programme begins with a detailed discovery session using one or more of the latest diagnostic tools, which include:

  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Positive psychology
  • Research into performance and behavioural change
  • The latest leadership theory and practice

The scientific analysis is an important element, but it is Nick’s expertise in interpreting and feeding back the outcomes, from individual’s vantage point, that really opens up the options and possibilities.
